Ham and Cheese Sliders

These ham and cheese sliders are made by layering thin slices of savory ham and melty cheese between soft buns, then baking them until golden and bubbly. The process involves assembling, coating with a seasoned butter mixture, and baking to achieve a warm, gooey, and crispy final texture. Perfect for sharing, they look irresistibly golden with melted cheese oozing out of each slider.

Ingredients

  • 1 package slider buns soft, buttery buns
  • 12 slices honey-glazed ham thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese or a mix of your favorite melting cheeses
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Baking dish (9x13 inch)
  • Basting brush
  • Small saucepan

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Carefully slice the buns horizontally in half, keeping them attached on one side if possible, to create a top and bottom layer. Arrange the bottom halves in your baking dish.
  2. Layer the slices of honey-glazed ham evenly over the bottom buns, covering all the bread and creating a savory base for the sliders.
  3. Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded mozzarella cheese over the ham, making sure to cover all the slices for a gooey, cheesy melt.
  4. In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the Dijon mustard and garlic powder until combined, then remove from heat. This creates a flavorful seasoned butter mixture.
  5. Use a basting brush to evenly spread the butter mixture over the cut sides of the top buns, ensuring they are coated with the seasoned butter for extra flavor and moisture.
  6. Carefully place the top buns over the layered fillings, pressing down gently to help everything settle and make contact.
  7. Pour the remaining butter mixture over the tops of the buns, allowing it to soak into the bread for even flavor and richness.
  8. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for about 15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and melted, and the buns are starting to turn golden.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up the tops and enhance the golden color.
  10. Once baked, let the sliders rest for 5 minutes. This allows the cheese to set slightly, making them easier to slice and serve without all the gooey mess.
  11. Slice the sliders into individual portions and serve warm, enjoying the melty cheese and savory ham in each bite.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, add a dash of hot sauce or a handful of pickles before baking. You can also assemble these sliders ahead of time and refrigerate before baking for a quick, satisfying meal.
