Ingredients

  • 8 slices slider buns
  • 8 slices smoked ham
  • 8 rings fresh pineapple or canned, drained well
  • 1/4 cup barbecue sauce smoky and tangy
  • 4 slices cheese (Swiss or provolone)
  • 2 tbsp butter melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Equipment

  • Knife
  • Cast-iron skillet
  • Basting brush
  • Baking sheet with parchment

Method

  1. Preheat your skillet over medium heat until hot, and prepare your ingredients by slicing the ham thinly and draining the pineapple rings well.
  2. Place the pineapple rings in the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until they develop a caramelized, golden-brown exterior and smell sweet and smoky.
  3. While the pineapple caramelizes, slice the slider buns in half horizontally and brush the cut sides with melted butter mixed with garlic powder for extra flavor.
  4. Remove the pineapple from the skillet and set aside. Next, sear the ham slices in the same skillet for about 1-2 minutes per side until they are warmed through and slightly caramelized, pressing flat if needed.
  5. Lay the bottom halves of the buns on your prepared baking sheet, then layer a few slices of ham on each, followed by a caramelized pineapple ring, a drizzle of barbecue sauce, and a slice or two of cheese.
  6. Cover the sliders with the top halves of the buns, then brush the tops with the remaining garlic butter mixture for a shiny, flavorful finish.
  7. Bake the assembled sliders in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 8-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the buns are golden and slightly crispy on top.
  8. Remove from the oven, let rest for 2 minutes to settle the juices, then serve warm with extra barbecue sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling.
